This handy No. 4 scalpel handle is compatible with Swann Morton No. 20–24 scalpel blades.
The handle is made of stainless steel, making it hygienic to use and easy to disinfect.
Securely Attach a Scalpel Blade
Follow the steps below to safely attach a surgical blade to the handle:
- Use pliers or another suitable tool to hold the blade, and avoid direct contact with the cutting edge.
- Hold the scalpel handle in your left hand with the bayonet lock facing upward.
- Place the blade halfway along the slot in the handle.
- Gently slide the blade further along the handle until you hear and feel it click into place.
- For a smooth fit, gently bend the blade upward as you slide it into place.
How to Safely Remove a Scalpel Blade
Follow the procedure below to safely remove a surgical blade:
- Grasp the blade at point A with tweezers or a needle holder—avoid contact with the cutting edge.
- Make sure the cutting edge is pointing away from you.
- Hold the handle firmly and carefully lift the back of the blade with the instrument, while simultaneously sliding the blade’s handle away.
- It is best to use a blade container to safely dispose of the used blade.
